My awesome interview with the fabulous Egypt Blaque Knyle. I must say, " thank you ", to her again for taking the time to answer all 30 questions. I'm sure all her fans will adore this lengthy interview. I'm a fan of burlesque and a fan of hers. " Egypt goddess of the Nile ruler of hearts taker of souls and temptress of seduction" 1. Burlesque and pinup. How did you begin, when and where? Urban Fairytails”. At that time I was also taking burlesque classes with Lili Vonschtupp at her school Lili’s School for Wayard Girls. In 2013 I graduated and officially became a burlesque performer. I came across Pin Up in 2015 but never took it to serious until I won the Pin Up Perfection Queen in Pittsburgh in 2016. 2. Where do you currently live and perform? I currently live in Los Angeles, California and perform all over the world. 3. To date what is your biggest accomplishment or achievement? Or what are the biggest? To date my biggest accomplishment in burlesque is being the first and only Performer of Color and Performer period to hold the most titles and awards in Burlesque History. 4. Do you perform burlesque full time, as a career, part time or as a hobby? Burlesque started off as a hobby but now has become a part time job. In my muggle life I am a Social Worker working in HIV/AIDS, Mental Health and Homelessness. 5. Lots of burlesque performers, contests and pageants. Have to ever lost or didn't place 1st? If so did you continue to enter in he future? If so, why didn't you throw in the towel? I have been competing in beauty pageants since I was a child holding over 45 titles. This included Pre-Teen, Teen, Miss and Miss titles. In Burlesque I have competed in many festivals and pageants. I have lost about 5 or 6 but have won to date 27 awards and titles and still going. As a competitor you have to know how to lose just as you know how to win. You take it all as an experience and you find the weaknesses and the strengths in your performance and fine tune them, fix them or exchange them for a new performance. I look at it like it wasn’t meant to be and maybe next time if you choose to try again. 6. Do you feel politics has anything to do with burlesque contests? Meaning knowing the judges personally, someone entering that has 100k social media followers verses others who enter having a small fan base? Honestly, I think politics plays a role on many levels. It can be who you are, who you know. It can be the color of your skin or your weight. But then again it can also be what can you bring to the system? What are you doing in the community to create change? It can be so many things. 7. How important is investing money in burlesque as a performer or in pinup as a model? It’s very important to invest into you period. Sometimes investments don’t have to be how much you spent on a costume it can just be the time you invested to put the costume and the piece together. I don’t always live by the rule that you need thousands of rhinestones or crystals in order to have a great piece. You can go to a nice little fabric store and purchase a nice material and get the same effect. 8. Have you studied burlesque performers of the past? If so who's your favorite and why? I am a dancer so I really studied dancers of the past like Katherine Dunham, Raven Wilkinson, Martha Graham and to date Judith Jamison. Judith has been an inspiration to me since I first started to dance. She is always fighting for the kids and young adults to use Dance and the Arts as an outlet. As I she is an advocate for Encouraging Youth in the Arts. In the Burlesque I study Legends such as Toni Elling, Lottie the Body, Gina Bon Bon, Tiffany Carter, Camille 2000 and Stephanie Blake. All of these women exude confidence, courage, sexappeal and they continue to fight for the rights of others. I am truly humbled to be amongst them all. 9. Who's your favorite burlesque performers of today? Have you ever worked with them or are you, your favorite burlesque performers of today? My favorite performers of today are Poison Ivory, Sweetpea, Perle Noire, Jeez Louees, Red Bone, Dirty Martini, Jessabelle Thunder. OMG! There are so many. I have taken classes with Perle Noire this woman has knocked down many doors for black performers to be creative and expressive. She is the Mother who keep us on our toes and push us to stay motivated and Inspired. I have headlined in Jeez Louees’s “Jeezy Juke Joint” in Chicago. Jeez was the first person to crown me as her successor with a Queen title at the Southern Fried Burlesque Festival in Atlanta, GA. Jessabelle Thunder is the reason I even came into burlesque and now we are personal friends and we have performed on many stages together. I have had the honor to share stages with Redbone who is a mentor, my sister, friend, etc… I love Sweetpea because she is a powerful dancer who just put it all out there on the stage. I am honored to have her as a mentor as well. Dirty Martini I have met but we have never performed together or sat down and had a conversation. Dirty Martini has created spaces for women and inspired them to be comfortable in their own skin. Last but not least Miss Poison Ivory! I love this woman with all of my heart. We are each others confidant. We inspire and motivate each other we help each other set goals and stay on the right path. Even when we are not feeling well we will call each other to cheer the other one up. I love all of these women for so many reasons. 10. How essential to being an overall success in burlesque today, do you feel publicity, press and publication are? It’s very important as a burlesque performer to have much publicity, press and publication. You have to get your name out there to get bookings and draw awareness to who you are. People always want to know who you are if you are nice or mean. People want to know your story. 11. Did you ever have any formal dance training before beginningin burlesque? If so where and how long? Yes I started dancing at the age of 4 years old here in Los Angeles, CA. I have danced my entire life being a part of many dance companies. I was the first cast of Disney’s Lion King where I danced as a tribal crane and moved on to Hercules as a Muse and other great shows. I cheered for professional cheerleading teams, I taught dance at Jr high and high schools. I was a video vixen featuring and dancing in videos. I am known as a legend in the urban strip clubs not because of age but because of performance and community advocacy and promoting education. I have always been a praise dancer. Something that is very dear to my heart. Praise dancing is my tranquility and an outlet to assist with my challenges in my everyday life its Food for my Soul. 12. Here in Vegas we have many live shows. And we have places that only present and showcase professional burlesque performers. Solo and in group performances. These shows run every week. There are companies that hire pro burlesque performers to perform every week with a contract, here in Vegas and all over the world. What is your take on that? Do they have similar shows and places of business where you live? I feel that producers can run their show how they want. I feel there is a place for all types of performers at all levels, having professional shows is what helps us develop as performers. To have a professional show you must present professionalism all around. That’s what keeps the business afloat. My only concern is when certain races and or sizes are being booked under contract regardless of performance level. Professional performers come in all races and sizes and we need to keep the diversity going in order to satisfy everyone’s taste buds. 13. When you began performing burlesque what was your goal ahead of time or did it just fell into your lap? My goal was to just get away from my office job and continue dancing. All I wanted was to just dance in my own community to stay active. 14. Do you have a supportive family when it comes to your performances? Oh yes my entire family are very supportive. My family support s everything I do as long as I am not hurting anyone. 15. People I'm sure have many assumptions about pay within every field of entertainment. Have you ever performed for free? If so what were the benefits? On average what do you make per show? I have performed for free when I was just starting out. The benefits for me were to be seen in order to receive future bookings. In anything you do people want to see the product before they purchase. On average it varies for each show on pay which is always negotiated if need be. 16. What projects, plans or goals are you currently working on? What's exciting and new that will be happening in the rest of 2016? As of now I am planning my all POC pageant called “The Bronze Beauties of Burlesque Pageant”. This pageant will be held like a regular beauty pageant. It is not just based on performance but style, grace and community service. I am also competing is Switzerland, Basel in September which I am very excited. 17. From packing to styling, drive time, wait time, performance and you get home, how long of a day have you had? On performing days there are never enough hours in the day. From leaving my day job in Social Services to going to my Night Job in Social Services lol. I am always rushing. 18. Name your most favorite thing about burlesque? Name something you absolutely hate. My most favorite thing about Burlesque is the tease, the illusion and fantasy. I hate the politics. 19. On average, every year how much do you investin your career? On average how much do you make? I invest a lot into my career. Once again it varies. 20. Do you wear tassels in your acts? Ever had a wardrobe malfunction? Is there any particular garments you would never perform or model in? Yes I wear tassels in my act. Yes I have had many malfunctions. As of now there are no particular garments I would never perform in. 21. Do you have representation? Manager, agent, sponsor or publicity manager? No I do not have representation other than myself and my art. 22. Have you seen or personally experience with racism within burlesque? Yes I have personally encountered racism within burlesque. 23. What do you know about the history of the iconic Jet Magazine? I know it was called the Negro Bible and it was geared toward African American readers. It was started in the 1950’s and they had the best articles on Beauty of the Month. I just wish the Beauty of the Month section really gave the entire story about the owner of that pretty face and body. 24. What are your thoughts and feelings about becoming a Jet Beauty of the Week? I am so grateful to be chosen as a possible Jet Beauty. I would love the world to know my story. I think people to need to know that we are not just sex symbols or women who show off their bodies. We are women with children, degrees and goals. 25. How do you feel about today’s pinups and burlesque performers of color? I feel that today we are still fighting for a place in both. There will only be a few trailblazers that will really have an impact within pin up and burlesque. Some are still fighting for EQUALITY! But why? We will never be equal as long as we are still among the close minded societies and communities. It’s not us as African Americans who are enslaved it’s the others who are enslaved mentally. 26. Tell us your take on Dita? I really love Dita. There is so much I have learned about her pertaining to dance, being a brand, and just being a human. My experience with Dita so far has been a very positive one. She is open to answering any questions I may have. She’s honest and that’s always a plus. I want people to understand that this woman studied dance her entire life but also realize she’s a brand and her brand is what’s good for business. I was amazed when I won her award during Viva Las Vegas 20. It was the first time this type of award has ever been presented by her and I am truly honored. I assumed she would have chosen a more classical burlesque performer. But afterwards I learned that she was entertained as soon as the curtains opened as I stood there on a platform channeling Michael Jackson. That’s when I also learned she is a trained dancer and she really appreciated the energy, creativity and just the way I showed passion in my performance. 27. Tell us your take on Viva Rockabilly Weekender here in Vegas? Burlesque contests, performances and burlesque bingo! I love VLV. The Burlesque contest of course is my favorite and I want that portion to grow and diversify. Every performance is unique and every performer comes to slay the stage if it’s the competition, showcase and or bingo. 28. What do you see an aspiring to become a professional burlesque performer, biggest challenge is? The biggest challenge for an aspiring burlesque performer is being able to stand as an individual and not jump on the popularity train. I see upcoming performers trying to be noticed by indulging in unnecessary conversations and or drama. I understand taking a stance for what you believe in but you can’t believe in everything because your favorite performer believes in it. You have to find you. 29. What advice would you give a burlesque doll just beginning? My advice for a new performer is to find you, master your art, find what makes you unique and different from others and move forward and stay focused on your goals. Create change and be the change. 30. Do you feel burlesque is more popular now because there's way more performers or back in the past? Definitely burlesque is more popular now because there are more performers. A lot of people never heard of our legends and they don’t know of the past. They may only know the name Dita Von Teese and think she is the only Burlesque star to date. Featured model is the lovely The Diamant Duchess.
Please tell us when, where and how you began shooting pinup? I started shooting Pinup Specifically back in 2013 when I met some beautiful ladies that wanted to do a retro shoot and this wonderful car museum in northern Georgia. And why, what made you choose this industry? It was such a wonderful experience between the ladies looks and fashion alongside with the beautiful cars that it brought me back to my days with my dad who was a mechanic, race car driver and lover of the 50s style. I was instantly hooked. What is your personal favorite style of pinup? Cheesecake, Rockabilly, Old Hollywood, Alt? And why? Oh, that’s really tough, I don't think I could choose, I love them all. I love the variety and what women bring to the table with their ideas and creativity. What is your biggest accomplishment to date? When was it, who did it involve and why do you see it as your biggest achievement, thus far? I would have to say my biggest accomplishment to date is just the fact of the growth of my business, between word of mouth and those i work with in the business, wonderful Makeup/Hair Artists, Car owners, shop owners, artist in general that work with me now is just amazing. But if I had to be specific, I would say being at Viva in Vegas and meeting new people and experiencing all that is Viva, was a major accomplishment! You photograph pinups in Georgia and surrounding areas. Do you have a studio and mainly shoot indoors or out? I do have a studio at my house, full studio with backdrops, props, lighting. I love to shoot indoors where I can control the lighting and I love when I can create a set/theme. I also love to shoot outdoors as well, Georgia is full of such a wonderful variety between lakes, beaches, mountains as well as city, using natural light and what’s around you can be wonderful, but you have to plan between time and hope mother nature plays nice when outdoors. What's your favorite set up or location? My favorite studio set had to be the Candy Shop we did, it was huge seller and everyone loved how fun it was. On location, I would have to say Historic Downtown Suwanee, its close by me and it’s just this small street that is most times vacant and quiet. It has some old buildings, a permanently parked train caboose, and of course train tracks. Its quaint and beautiful and have shot some of my favorites photos there. What are your current plans and goals for 2018? What's in the works to end 2017? Planning to rent a home in Vegas for Viva 2018 to do shoots and working with another amazing photographer David Rose from Twisted Pinup Images, as well as Makeup/Hair Artist Always Pretty by Kimber. As for 2017, the end of the year is always the busiest for me, starting next month, August will roll out some final summer shoots then start set design for Halloween, followed by Christmas theme. I won't see a break until after January. What do you love most about pinup and what’s your biggest pet peeve, in pinup? What I love most about pinup is the retro fashion and style, I also love working with men and women who live it every day. My biggest pet peeve must be drama, no matter how much you try to be professional and laid back there is always people that try to bring drama into your life. I try real hard to distance myself from that, life is too short to be hateful, hurtful and petty. You're known in our industry as the best, no one better. How does that make you feel? Wow, what a lovely thing to say, thank you! I have worked so painstakingly hard (80+ hours a week for 4 years solid) to get DOLLHOUSE to the level it has reached, and I really can’t believe how popular my work is worldwide - I am very fortunate to do something I absolutely love - anyone who knows me knows that I eat, breathe and sleep DOLLHOUSE! I invest almost every penny I make into the business and there is an undeniable fire in my belly to constantly improve my work and see DOLLHOUSE grow from strength to strength. What was it that inspired you to set up DOLLHOUSE? I simply adore the pin up genre as it is so stylised and visually indulgent. Becoming a photographer was actually unplanned though! I did a pin up shoot for fun with a few friends using a camera I had bought for my graphic design work… After posting the digitally enhanced photos on Facebook, seemingly out of no where all of these pin up fans started sharing my images, and before I knew it I had quite a following. Because I enjoyed it so much and felt that I could creatively stretch my wings as a photographer, I left a career in property marketing/design in London to start DOLLHOUSE, and my feet haven’t touched the floor since! What training did you do before becoming a photographer? I had no formal training in photography, I just experimented with light and settings to get results I liked - I still shoot without modelling lights or a light meter in fact, and I do all of my editing on a laptop with a 3-inch built in track pad which is pretty unorthodox for a professional photographer. I learned basic photoshop at school as a teen and became instantly hooked - I spent up to 15 hours a day experimenting on Photoshop for 15 years before DOLLHOUSE was born… this spring-boarded my post production techniques into a level that allows me to create literally anything I imagine - hence the extravagant and surreal style of a lot of my work. I spend up to 8 hours on some of my composites but typically 1-2 hours per image in post production, and I get a buzz like nothing else when I finish a special new piece. What is it about the vintage, pin up style that you enjoy so much? Why did you choose this era? I love the saucy almost innocent cheekiness of vintage pin-up – it puts a smile on your face and there were several famous artists/exponents of the genre who elevated it to an art form. The era in which pin up developed – war torn ‘40s has become so romanticised, and I love to recreate some of the classic poses and to construct new ones of my own. How many photoshoots are carried out each week at DOLLHOUSE? At our huge DOLLHOUSE studio in Birmingham England, typically we shoot 10am-7pm four or five days a week, and this can be anything from 5 to 15 clients a week who travel from all over the place - we had 2 clients from Australia last month and one from Hong Kong, as well as regular USA clients, and of course many from London and other parts of the UK. I also tour the USA 3-4 times a year and shoot several lovely clients per day across Florida, New York, Texas, Nevada, Louisiana and California. I actually shoot very quickly but the shoots take a lot of time due to the elaborate styling and costume changes - in between each set I shoot I am glued to my laptop editing, I tend to edit for around 10-12 hours a day, every day of the week. Are women nervous when they come in for their photoshoots? All but the most professional models are nervous. Some are almost crippled by their nerves and I and other members of my team take a great deal of care in helping them to relax and enjoy their shoot - they are always walking on air as they leave and I find that the “Before and After” shots that clients have given me permission to use are also very helpful in settling nerves. How long does it take to transform a woman for her shoot? (Hair, make up, clothes etc) It varies greatly on what look/theme they want in their shoot. If we have someone with very short hair who wants curls to the waist or someone who chooses a wide range of clothes and props, this greatly affects the length of the transformation. What kind of lighting and techniques are used to transform the women into flawless, glamorous pin up models? How long have you got? ,) My Stylists are amazingly talented and we work so well together from consultation with the client that she understands exactly what I want for the particular client. My Stylists can make the best of a person’s skintone and overall colouring and I can tell on sight what angles and lighting I need to use to bring out the best in a fact or the client's body. What kind of props are used for the shoots? We use everything from a motorbike, to a bale of hay, to valuable vintage furniture, to a bespoke gown in the style of Dita von Teese. My props wardrobe is looking like the backroom at a theatre because of the many elements I use in my shoots - our wardrobe is insured for £200,000 and my team and I are like little girls playing dress up with our clients a lot of the time - there is never a dull moment at DOLLHOUSE! How much is a pin up photoshoot at DOLLHOUSE Unless it is a specially commissioned shoot, all of our numerous styled shoots are listed and fully described on our website - we are not cheap, but nothing high quality is ,) What is the main reason for women to come and have a DOLLHOUSE photoshoot? Apart from professional models who want shots for calendars, photobooks, commercial products etc. there is no “main reason” why women want a DOLLHOUSE photoshoot. Many want a set of beautiful photographs in fabulous surroundings and clothes as a keepsake for their own satisfaction or as a gift for their partner. Some of my older clients want a set before they think they are too old (I say “never” – my oldest client was late 60s). Some love the romance encapsulated in a shoot and some who struggle with a disability in their everyday life want to see themselves in their best light. However, I am proud to say that all of my clients love to have a set of shots in which they look beautiful - many say more beautiful than they ever thought they could look. I work so hard to ensure every photo I take is produced with the attention to detail of a mini work of art, and the incredibly heart-warming and uplifting messages I get from clients after they receive their pictures, make all the early mornings and late nights worth every moment. www.dollhousephotography.co.uk [email protected] Tel: +44(0)121 227 5028 [email protected] DOLLHOUSE 199 Warstone Lane Birmingham B18 6JR UK Lone Star Pin - Up Photography
I did an interview for my column Pinup Talk by Dianna Prince, in Delicious Dolls Magazine, with the amazingly talented Erin Shephard of Lone Star Pin - Up Photography. When I 1st began pinup modeling I researched heavily and came across this full service pinup and vintage studio. Very well known in our industry, for high quality and a true classic pinup look to every shoot. Specializing in what I consider Classic Cheesecake Pinup. Was a pleasure to interview the creative and inspiring Lone Star Pin Up Photography. The interview is below. Tell me how you started in pinup photography. With several years experience in photo retouching and graphic design, I created Lone Star Pin-up in 2008 as a way to share my love of pin-up artwork and old Hollywood glamour style with friends and family. Word of mouth quickly spread, and my studio grew from its humble garage beginnings to my first commercial space in October of 2010. We are now located in a beautiful 1930's home in historic downtown Temple, TX and love photographing ladies from all over the Lone Star State and beyond! Tell me about the services you offer your clients. We offer our clients a fun and high end experience, from professional hair and makeup styling to gorgeous wardrobe selections in our costume closet to magazine quality retouching and luxe products. We want our clients to feel like queens for a day and have some amazing portraits to showcase. What does pinup mean to you and why do you love it? I love the style, glamour, and sophisticated sexiness of women from the 1920's-1960's. It's a beautiful and nostalgic for modern girls to be able to embrace vintage style in modern times. Pin-ups are for all women and I love that! It would be my pleasure to enlighten them! Vintage Stylist Dianna Prince Images by ( Award-Winning Classic Pin Up Shoots at ♥️ www.dollhousephotography.co.uk ♥️ ) Published in Delicious Dolls Magazine Pinup Talk by Dianna Prince For the 2nd part of the interview section, I went into detail on how I dress meeting someone about biz, verses how I dress when I'm styling and modeling. All very different looks. I made it a point to mention clearly that I don't wear, style, not model in modern, so anything as far as biz, will always have a pinup and vintage feel. Your Personal Styling Business
▼ After researching competitors and the trends and needs of the city or town where you live (average age, income, lifestyle, etc.) develop an idea for your own personal shopping or personal style business. Define your target demographic. Give your company a name and develop both a mission statement, a core strategy, and a slogan that reflects your “brand.” Develop your “brand” to include a slogan, logo, tag-line, etc. Collect a scrapbook of fashion ads from major magazines – like Vogue, Elle, Lucky, Harper’s, GQ, and Esquire. When you have pulled out 20 different ads, study the “copy” and how it works with the visual. Write an ad for your own company – with a slogan or headline, tagline, and body copy. Pair your ad with a photograph or image you download from the Internet. Prepare a written report with all this information. After doing some research on various online social media, professional networking and business sites, select four that you will focus your efforts on and describe in your report specific details of your ideas for marketing and publicity. 12/18/2017 0 Comments Unit 5 School ProjectThe New York Institute of Art and Design Unit 5 Project Compare four online retailers to four retail boutiques for maternity clothes. Assume you are buying sportswear for a pregnant woman. Compare the advantages and disadvantages of online vs retail shopping in terms of convenience, selection, quality, and price. These are the online stores and department stores that carry maternity clothing. Because online shopping has increased so heavily over the years, it's almost impossible to find a maternity clothing store that just sells maternity clothing only. So, so many online stores that only carry maternity wear, or online stores that have a maternity line or selection. Then there's huge department stores that sell them online and in - store. Department stores like Macy's, Ross, all the way to Wal-Mart, Target, etc., they have a maternity clothing section online and at the store. Motherhood Maternity seems to be the most popular brand and has online and stores. They have them all over the U.S. Pea in The Pod is very popular, they carry many maternity brands online and have stores. I say honestly, with clothing if you have the money it's best to buy expensive clothing. The quality of the fabric, stitching and design equals style and comfort. Quality costs. People on a budget usually aren't financially ahead enough to hire a personal stylist. I mean if their budget is in fact low. So if you have the means to acquire a stylist I'm assuming you have a good size budget. When you're a pregnant woman comfort is golden. There are many woman put on bed rest, or even in the hospital. Many active pregnant woman who are always on the go and many workout. Lot's are already mom's, mom's with a career too, or wives with lots of physical, daily duties. Whether your at home in bed, in hospital, post pregnancy, or active, there's a variety of clothing and under garments, in all sizes. I really liked Old Navy online during my 2nd pregnancy. Cute clothes, great low prices and quality material. I was so sick stuck at home in bed until late in my pregnancy, both times it was rough. I was also in the hospital too. For all the active women, or career women, there are just simply too many adorable outfits, sports wear, upscale attire, under garments and footwear. From no label and sold via EBay from China, Motherhood Maternity, Old Navy brand, to Burberry, Gucci, and more, there's endless stores online and department stores that carry maternity clothing. I think it's obvious trying on clothes is the biggest advantage of shopping at a store in person. Looking at the color on you, seeing how the garment fits, feels and looks is essential. However you can shop online 24 hours a day. Online, just like in - store, there are specials. Online only special, coupon in - store specials. Cyber Monday, Black Friday both online and in - store. I think as a pregnant woman you may not want to be shopping on a huge crowd of people and waiting in long lines. Comfort is usually important more than deals. I think it can be convenient to shop online, yet inconvenient if something doesn't fit. I like visiting websites that only sale maternity clothing because they have a variety and there's no temptation or distraction to buy things other than maternity cloths. I think quality maternity clothing can be found at places like Wal-Mart and Ross. The selection will be slim or just no where near the variety at an actual maternity store. But that rings true at Macy's or Burberry. Both online and stores but don't specialize in offering maternity wear. I think overall if a department store has maternity wear, then they most likely have a bigger selection online. There isn't always a nearby Motherhood Maternity store. Not all women are well enough to go shopping, and some can't afford their prices. So the conscience of online shopping, the larger selection and great online prices, overweighs not being able to be in store shopping, and trying on things. If I were shopping for a pregnant woman who's going to be at home during her pregnancy, not planning to go to events or special occasions, I'd advice Old Navy, Gap, Ross and Wal-Mart. If my client has a career where she had to be groomed and well put together, but no necessarily upscale, or she's already a mom and has PTA meetings, play dates, accompanying her spouse for his biz events, church, etc. I'd suggest JC Penny, Motherhood Maternity, Pea in The Pod, and more. If she is a socialite, like say the wife of a biz man and they dine out with her partner's, boss and or clients, or has biz meetings and parties at home, I'd suggest Macy's, Bloomingdales, etc. Maybe a woman who has a career as a banker, lawyer, actress, event hostess, travel agent, school teacher,... someone in the public eye in a professional way, that doesn't have a required uniform. I'd also suggest high end retailers. High end name brands. Appearance can be important whether your a full time housewife, housewife and mom already, havea job or career in any field. High end clothing brands fit so well, last long and are comfortable, usually. I think comfort is 1st, conscience 2nd, and budget 3rd. All are essential. Then variety comes into play and becomes important due to personal taste. I like specialty stores because the variety is there, sales people who know those garments, and 9 out of 10 times the brand or brands they carry are made to look fabulous on a pregnant woman and are comfortable. Higher prices to some degree and less convenient than online shopping. But get to try on garments that were made for pregnancy. Bellow ar men's suits. Had to find 9 suits total! 3 men's suit designers and 3 suits each. " You are shopping for a short, stocky man with an olive-toned complexion and dark hair who has a substantial budget and would like to buy a new business suit for the fall. He tells you he likes pinstripes or charcoal gray. It's quite impossible to have a blog with my port because I have thousands of photographs of me. My website has the majority. I created this blog to showcase images of me in vintage apparel. Upscale, casual, and lingerie. I was fortunate to work with a fabulous photographer in San Diego that started her own vintage clothing, online boutique. Sweet Bisou. I modeled in some stunning vintage clothing and lingerie. Name brand and fabulous. Landed to magazine covers working with her! Since then I became a lover of true vintage wardrobe and vintage reproductions. I became a collector. Currently I have about 30 beautiful vintage peignoir's. I own a few vintage dresses and vintage under garments, all of which I adore. I'm always looking for new pinup or vintage designers, brands or stores to represent and model in their line. I began writing article's and soon after was offered my 1st column. This was over 3 years ago. Since then I've written article's for several pinup publications. They are always happy to accept content and article's from me. Delicious Dolls Magazine is the biggest, most successful pinup magazine in the world! I'm a proud columnist and my column Pinup Talk by Dianna Prince has appeared in their special edition issues over 2 fabulous years now! On occasion I interview top professionals in pinup, but the majority of my article's feature model's I've styled. So it's a grand opportunity to offer my pinup academy clients to be published in Delicious Dolls Magazine. The owners are amazing and very selective, which is why it's such an amazing opportunity. Bellow are some examples of past article's I wrote and were featured in my column, in DD. Here are the links to my Facebook pages dedicated to my column's and articles. https://www.facebook.com/PinupTalkDiannaPrince/ https://www.facebook.com/ColumnistDiannaPrince/ The Pinup Profile in Pinupworship Magazine. This is my 2nd column I'm very proud of, and adore the owner Peter Smith. In this column I've interviewed top pinups, pinup photographers and featured my styling. Peter has a humongous social media following on Instagram, and the magazine has become a hit! Bellow are a few examples of my articles in my column The Pinup Profile. Image above by Pinup Dolls Photography Above are several product shots of me in vintage clothing, vintage lingerie and pinup outfits. Photographers Pinup Dolls Photography Tibi Rider Raymond Anthony Photography Cedric Jones Photography I keep a detailed log of the wardrobe I have for me, as well as the wardrobe I have to offer my academy model's. Thousands and thousands of dollars in wardrobe and an entire room that I call, Dianna Prince's Pinup Closet! I own everything from modern clothing that looks or can look pinup in style, bathing suits, dresses and gowns, skirts, sweaters, blouses, suits, costumes and my favorites which are true vintage. I currently own about 30 vintage peignoir's and babydoll negligee nightgowns. Every color, different styles and from the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's. I cherish them and have collected them iver the last 2 years. I never repeat an outfit or major garment when shooting. So wardrobe is essential for me as a professional pinup and vintage model and as a stylist with a pinup academy. As I mentioned above, all my shoots are for pinup magazine publication. There are several awesome pinup magazines that will also place ads for me and have many times. So when I model for a designer, boutique or company, there are endless opportunities to promote and advertise in exchange for bringing magazines new content. Plus my article's on designers and boutiques. I have a select few, amazing, personal photographers that travel to Vegas to photograph me several times a year and a couple of great local one's that I work often. I strive for high quality as a pinup model, stylist and columnist. Top quality photography is essential. Images above by RMH Photography Byington Photography I'd like to add a few amazing recommendations from a few people I've worked with for year and year now. I want to thank them all again, for the absolutely wonderfully fabulous remarks and compliments that are simply PRICELESS! " It always find it amusing when a recommendation starts out the model arrived on time as if that defines Professionalism. Kandi knows the work she puts in before arriving will pay major dividends. Kandi is a consummate professional that works with all the creatives involved in the images before appearing to the photographer. She sets the theme, concepts, and goals with everyone. She arrives with a MUA, hair stylist or has that done just before arriving. She arrives with the designer or clothing representative with the attire that will be featured. She knows the little details like wearing lose fitting clothes to the shoot so bra and other skin indentations do not become a problem for a particular fashion (e.g. Shoulder less). The designer serves as a stylist and ensures the clothes are worn properly, laces straight, draped correctly, and is catalogue or publish ready. Fashion assures and props are carefully selected. Studio or venues are selected appropriately for the “look” desired. The hair style favors both the attire and the model. The makeup also is complimentary to the fashion. This is particularly important for Pin up, cosplay, high fashion. Lets say you are shooting an ad for perfume called desire. Guess that the fashion would be better as lingerie than a house coat, (LOL), and the pose will sell the brand. Marilyn Monroe was credited with knowing how to present herself to look the most photogenic. Kandi shares that trait. She also realizes that only the photographer sees what the view finder represents and takes directions well. She selects photographers with enough experience and skill to direct the individual model. While merely small adjustments are required for Kandi other models require much more posing assistance ". Fred Haider Can Do Captures " Authentic. Kandi is by nature authentic and understands the importance of being authentic in images. In certain genres like pin up an authentic images even shot by a so so photographer beats a non authentic image shot by a skilled photographer. Nothing looks more fake then 2017 attire, props and venue for a 40’s - 60’s pin up. Kandi acquired the props and attire at her pin up academy and can make them available. Also the pose and expression should reflect the times. Kandi has old magazines and done the research that she teaches in the academy. She also knows photographers that can shoot a model and replace the background. They make an effort to shoot venues for that. I shot images of vintage RV’s, buildings, etc. Two weeks ago I shot a replica of the Oval Office that LBJ used. In all genres including artistic nudes being authentic is vital to take the image from good to great. Kandi allows the beauty inside to come out in her images. It is a hard to define commodity I call spirit. The more a model works with a photographer and develops a comfort level and they become more comfortable in their own skin. That then translates to better fashion poses. Models should check the work of the photographer, get references so they know the photographer is professional, respectful and easy to work with. Trust me a photo editor for Tiffany will check to see if the model exudes authentic confidence and grace in the image to book them. Kandi has the experience and skill set to share. I am certain she advises her models/students to Practice, practice, practice. Also she suggests models find the best photographers with a great portfolio to shoot Trade for, (Your time for theirs). Models would also be well advised to work with mentors like Kandi, skilled hair stylists and make up artists that want to build a portfolio showing off there skills. Make sure their work reflects the authentic you. Good luck models - have fun and success ". Fred Haider Can Do Captures Image above by Can Do Captures By Brooklyn Brat Images. Yours truly, Penny Suozzi owner LA Kiss Boutique/LA Kiss.com " Penny Dombrowski www.blueorchidexoticwear.com phone 520-744-8013 fax 520-300-7222 Elizabeth Taylor I've blogged on this and specifically created a policy link for The Dianna Prince Pinup Academy, going over every detail of shoots, rules and guidelines. It's apparent to me the numerous gals are not reading the terms. This causes several negative issues, assumptions and altered plans. I want to know go over all rules and guidelines, again, in detail. Without going into a single emotion or opinion. I highly encourage clients and models to read this in its entirety before booking a shoot or additional shoots. The 2018 academy policy link is still active and was modified slightly a few months back. Every single model who messages me receives the link as well as returning models. Maureen O'Hara Every single time someone cancels whether it's a week in advance, days in advance or day before a shoot, NO MATTER WHAT, WHAT THE REASON OR EXCUSE IS, no matter how many times we've worked together, how beautiful you are, how much fun we have,...... the results of EVERY cancellation is EXACTLY the same!!! All of these things go to waste or end up resulting in a waste of time. 1. Communication planning back and forth 2. Time spent preparing wardrobe and hairstyles 3. Time spent finding a location or building a set 4. My entire day, plans before and after a shoot are altered 5. Plans for the money I've already began working for, altered 6. Plans for publication from that shoot, altered 7. Anyone who is involved and was booked, has their scheduled plans now altered It's not as simple as the excuse or person giving it effecting the outcome, reaction and consequences. The reason why NEVER matters, in biz, the results are ALWAYS the Same! It may seem like it's not a big deal. Just like gals get top comfy and show up late habitually and think it's no big deal either. Anything that wastes time, alters plans in a negative way and stops positive results from occurring, will NEVER be ok! Ann Sothern I'm convinced that people who cancel, often assume and really believe that their particular excuse is somehow unique, like it changes the consequences just for them. It doesn't and that's a fact! There are 2 main rules in the academy policy that are related to canceling. #1, if you cancel a shoot you booked and it's less than 48 hours prior to it, there's a small cancellation fee. No exceptions! # 2 This must be paid within a week whethera 2nd shoot is booked or not. If the cancellation fee isn't paid #1 you won't be invited back. #2 I'll pull an upcoming issues you're scheduled to be in. Not helping anyone gain publication if they break academy policy and fail to pay cancellation fees. So I'll repeat this once more for good measure. No matter who you are, what the exact reason , aka excuse, how many times we've worked together, how much fun or past success we've had, no exceptions!!!! It can be your very 1st and only time canceling last minute. Results are still exactly the same, PERIOD! Rosemary Clooney Lastly something essential to know was added to the academy policy about 6 months ago. New rule. It's called 3 strikes you're out. It had to be created and added and I hope when the consequences hit and I implement the rule gals refrain from getting emotional. IT'S WRITTEN in the policy, clear as day! If you break any of the academy policy rules 3 times I won't invite you back. Listen carefully please. This means any of the rules or a combination of them. Meaning breaking the same exact rule 3 times or 2 or 3 different rules a total of 3 times. 1. Being over 15 minutes late 2. Showing up without the styling fee 3. Showing up unprepared No under garments No stockings Makeup not fully done Hair wet, dirty or unmanageable Nails groomed or preferably painted 4. Poor communication Hard to get ahold of Doesn't make communicating a priority 5. Canceling or canceling last minute No matter what reason, no exceptions Alllllll of the things listed above are essential at every shoot with everyone! If there's a combination of any of those things or just the same rule being broken, once you reach 3 times, I can no longer trust you'll follow the policy. I personally adore the little high heels and shorts. I really love printed tops and sweaters with the shorts. Classic white and black shorts with fisnets in so many images. So a cute little sweater that's form fitting, shorts, fishnets or pantyhose and low heel, high heels. Love it and appartently so did pretty much every woman during those era's.
