7/30/2017 0 Comments Pinup Photo Shoot EssentialsHere is my list of things every pinup models needs and are essential to creating an overall, perfect pinup look. I enourage dolls new to pinup to invest. Invest in a few key items that don't cost a whole lot and will be used often. Can purchase them on ebay or find them at your local Walmart, etc.
Unless you're in the position of having a personal vintage or pinup shopper, a styling consultant and all styling and wardrobe offered to you, you'll need to invest. Also take a look in your closet and see what you have that does not have a very modern look and can be paired up with accessories, pinup hair and vintage looking heels, and therefore becomes pinup wardrobe. By adding a belt, hat, gloves, scarf, etc., you can create a entirely new look. Makeup for most pinup shoots can be really simple. No need for wild eye shadow colors or designs. No need for contouring and heavy foundation. Simple powder to knock the shine off is easy. Black eye liner with a cat eye look, is very popular, almost standard. Red lip is also extremely popular in pinup. And lashes. Again, its almost standard to apply false lashes, to me they are a must!!! Pinup and vintage hair, extremely imporrant. I havs come accross outfits that look more pinup in style if the model has a vintage hairdo. Also a perfectly pinup or vintage outfit looks completely odd if the hair is modern. Youtube videos on vintage hair and simply studying specific hairdos you love, then practice them over and over. There are also wigs. I'm a huge fan of pinup wigs. I love styling a modern wig into a vintage style. Bobby pins and lots of hairspray! Can find very inexpensive wigs on ebay, starting as low as $8! Then style it adding a huge flower or things like a hair band, martini hat, etc. There are also many hair pieces like layered ponytails, clip on bangs and buns. Cheap and easy to attach. Nails, nail polish or plain polish. I'd rather see a pinup with clear polish or a plain dull color, than nails in need of grooming. It will visibly show and clearly stand out, especially chipped polish. I really dislike fake nails, long with wild colors and designs. They stick out and take away from any vintage look. Heels, sandals and shoes. Biggest pet peeve of mine is a beautiful model, fabulous pinup wardrobe, fabulous vintage hairstyle, wonderful makeup and accessories,... then modern heels!!! Using the word, " dislike ", is a polite understatement. Talk about sticking out like a sore thumb, modern heels totally ruin a vintage look. Now if you are a modern day pinup, things will change. Different wardrobe, heels and things like nail polish etc. I try to steer clear of modern day pinup and Alt, they just don't interest me. True classic Cheesecake pinup, vintage Rockabilly, Old Hollywood recreations and vintage fashion, are my favorites and what I model in as well as style my models or clients in. I will leave off on under garments. Must have the basics if you plan to shoot. At my pinup academy I don't loan out under garments. Once in a blue moon I have no other option because dolls brand new to pinup do not own the essentials. 3 main colors, nude, black, white. Bras, panties and garter belts. You will see many uses out of those key garments, which can be quite inexpensive. Online and yes even Walmart has girdles and body shapers, bra's, panties, stockings and thigh highs. Unless all wardrobe is offered or provided at a shoot, you must invest. Vintage or vintage looking under garments are easy to find and do not cost a lot. When all else fails, seek out a professional pinup or vintage fashion consultant. Often times, even photographers that shoot pinup or vintage often, have no clue or very little knowledge on vintage wardrobe. 1950's hair should be with 50's style wardrobe. 40' hair should be along with 40's looking clothes and heels, etc. A blog I wanted to do a while now. I of course adore vintage and antique props as much as vintage wardrobe. I own some cool vintage props abd even 2 modern piggy banks that were made to cook like vintage cameras. They look pretty awesome in images. Here are some of my favorite vintage starlets with cameras. Vintage Stylist Dianna Prince Marilyn Monroe photographed by Bert Stern, Vogue September 1962 (The Last Sitting ) Marilyn Monroe Audrey Hepburn Sophia Loren Rita Hayworth Joan Collins Queen Elizabeth II " So here is Nanci White, photographed by that famous photographer of the 50's, Bunny Yeager. She was born in 1930 in Wilkinsburg, Pa. and went on to become one of the most photographed models in Miami. Then she decided she liked being on the other side of the camera. She's most famous for making Bettie Page famous (the famous pin-up model of the 50's). She took most of her photographs including ones that appeared in Playboy magazine. She also took photos of Ursula Andress and of course, Nanci White who appears below. In 1968 she played the role of a Swedish Masseuse opposite Frank Sinatra in Lady in Cement. She also played a part in the 2005 film The Notorious Bettie Page.". http://ladiesofthegrove.blogspot.com/2011/04/which-lady-photographer-do-you-like.html?m=1 7/29/2017 0 Comments The Vintage TrenchMy brother just loaned me his fabulous trench coat to shoot in soon! I call it a London Fog coat. Can't wait to model in it. 7/29/2017 0 Comments Bettie Page Chair PosesFabulous everything from this iconic 1950's sex symbol!!! Hair, makeup, lingerie, heels and facial expressions on point. Her poses were bold, sexy and inspirational to pinups. Decided to add in this series of images of Bettie by the famous and iconic Bunny Yeager. A much softer side to Bettie. Images just above this text and bellow.
7/29/2017 0 Comments Bettie Before The Bangs!I'd consider most of these images quite rare. Bettie Page was known for a few signature and iconic things. Her bangs being the 1st thing that most people idenify her with, hense the term, " Bettie Bangs ".
Here are some vintage photos I managed to find upon research. Some images are not the clearest because they are extremely old. Interesting how hairstyles totally shape and change the apperance of the face. Vintage Stylist Dianna Prince 7/29/2017 0 Comments Hugh Hefner ARRESTED 1963From the Chicago Tribune, June 5, 1963: The arrest was made on a warrant issued by Judge Norman N. Eiger in Municipal court on complaint of the corporation counsel’s office…After examining the magazine, Judge Eiger said he was satisfied that probable cause existed for the issuance of the warrant. He made it plain that that is the only issue he ruled on. The matter of whether Miss Mansfield’s pictures are art or obscenity must await judicial determination. When the case went to trial a few months later, Hefner took the stand in his defense. From the Trib, December 5, 1963: Hefner said that each person should be his own judge of what is acceptable. He said also that Miss Mansfield was not paid for the photographs, and that she posed to get publicity for a movie…Dr. Ner Littner, a child psychologist and member of the Chicago police censor board appeals committee, told the jury that he did not believe the June issue was obscene and in his opinion it didn’t appeal to “prurient interests for the average person.” In the end, the jury deadlocked 7 to 5, and Judge Nicholas J. Matkovic declared the case a mistrial. Such an interesting story, especially when I think of todays sexual standards in publication. Hard to believe they actually went ahd arrested him. And that it took him until the mid 70's to pack it up ahd head west. Leaving Chicago behind and building the infamous Playboy mansion.
Interesting that he was actually a pioneer in content of a sexual nature in publishing. Jayne Mansfield as wwll because it was her cover that led to hus arrest and court case.
